All Saints

All Saints Sunday is the first Sunday of every November. It’s a day that we remember those who we have lost in the year prior – those who have gone on ahead of us.

During the offertory, I sang a song. The first verse goes:

“There’s a peace I’ve come to know
Though my heart and flesh may fail
There’s an anchor for my soul
I can say, ‘It is well.'”

After the reading of the names of those who have passed on this last year, our pastor opened it up to the congregation to call names of our own. I called one very precious name, and our pastor said:

“For the life of Nathaniel Thomas…”

To which a room full of voices rang:

“… Thanks be to God.”

Thanks be to God.
