Cough, cough, cough

I’ll share something with you. Ever since we took Graham’s pacifier away, he’s cried himself to sleep. No bueno. We got down to 10 minutes of fussing pretty quickly (a few days without the paci) but figured that’d be as good as it gets.

Imagine our surprise when, two nights ago – almost a full month after quitting the paci cold turkey, he went down into the crib happy and chattered himself off to a peaceful slumber. Fluke? Well, he did the same thing last night too.

Well okay, I’ll back up a little Graham started a head cold day before, so he was coughing up a storm when we put him to bed last night. And then his happy, cough-speckled chatter suddenly turned to crying. A visit to the nursery eventually revealed he’d coughed himself sick, ifyouknowwhatimean, so we changed sheets, shoved a blanket and pillow under the head of his crib mattress to elevate it a bit, and eventually got the little bug back to sleep.

Then 4:30 a.m. came along and the crying commenced again. I tried back rubs and camping out in the nursery recliner (he cried every time I left), but it was a no go, so we threw in the towel shortly after 5:00 a.m.

Soooo, Graham’s staying home from school today to try and get some rest. Truth be told, I’m hoping to play a little slumber catch-up myself!

  1. Hate, hate, hate those coughs!

  2. Yep, no fair he can’t get cough medicine for awhile! I did call the nurse today, who gave me the OK to administer some children’s Benadryl to dry him up and help him sleep a little better. Happy to report he went back down at 6:30 and slept another couple hours. AND he’s taking his regular nap now!

  3. Meant to say Benadryl TONIGHT. Hope that helps things!
