Home, Sweet Home.

Ohhh we DID it! We bought the house! It closed and we have keys in hand! We could not wipe the smiles off our faces this morning.

A semi-terrible picture of the both of us, but I wanted to capture the moment. You can tell that I’m a Millennial on the cusp. I somehow have the compulsion to take selfies at times, but I totally suck at them!

Oh well, this is us sitting in the driveway at 7:47 in the morning waiting for our realtor to show up for our 8:00 a.m. final walk-through prior to closing.

If you listen closely, you can hear angels singing!

I spent the morning squeeze-hugging Andy at random intervals and squealing at nothing and everything in particular.

Closing went off without a hitch. Where our McKinney house closing was just us two and a closing agent, this closing had us, closing agent, our realtor, the sellers’ realtor and our mortgage broker. The broker was a real character – very likable guy. Brought us (both realtors and us) each a bottle of wine. It felt like a party.

At the end of it, Andy and I celebrated by going to a local diner for [an A-MAZING] breakfast and then to the house to really figure out what we want to do prior to moving in and where our furniture will go.

Finally, since I only scheduled myself out for a half day, we drove back to the apartment to drop Andy off and so I could pick up my computer bag before going back to the office.

It took us about 5 minutes to realize that I had left my phone IN THE DARN HOUSE. (What is UP with me leaving my phone everywhere?) So, okay, the new house is the opposite direction from what I normally take to work, but it was about the same distance all said and done. I just ended up driving to work over the lake instead of under the lake.

Except… when I was about a mile from work I realized that I’d forgotten my work shoes (I was wearing snow boots) at home. I decided it was no big deal, except they had been sitting right next to… OH MY GOD WHERE IS MY COMPUTER?!?!  :::dials Andy on the phone::: “Is my computer sitting by the door of the apartment?!?!”

Oh yes. It was.

Literally, I drove all the way around Lake Mendota today.

That was fun.

(And after that, it was a *little* easier to wipe the smile off my face.)

Rest assured, it went back to perma-grin when we took the boys over there for the first time ever after daycare today. Both are *so* excited for our new place. We are too.

I can’t believe we have a house here now. The move to Wisconsin is feeling more permanent in so many ways. I’m excited to see what life has in store for us here – knowing this house is going to be the stage for so many memories. And I can’t wait to get started. :)

  1. Congratulations! It’s such a beautiful home, I can see how you will be very happy there!!  Can’t wait to come visit!

  2. Kudos on a very successful (and HUGE) move across country! We’re so happy you have landed so well, and in such a wonderful place. Congratulations on your beautiful new home. Can’t wait to start filling it with happy times!!

    • Your happiness really shines through in your story!  I feel so excited and happy for you in your new home!

  3. I am so happy for you both. Have a great holiday

  4. First, congrats on the new house. I know the feeling of excitement of a new home.

Secondly, you mean to tell me you forgot your phone, your computer, AND your shoes on your way to work? Yowsers.

Third, you have probably realized this already but the subtitle of this website needs a little word smithing. And your photo stream name is jarring when looking at pictures of snow. You have nothing else to do; make these your top priorities :-)

    • I am a hot mess right now. I’m embarrassed by just how many absent-minded mistakes I’m making lately. Terrible.

Definitely know the site needs help! Know anyone who’s available for contract work? I can’t pay much. :) I *was* able to update the bio on the sidebar on the front page. But the About Us page, banner graphic and the ever-absent Photos page? :::sigh::: I’m so close on Photos, and that’s what I long for most of all.
